Learn How
The COVID-19 pandemic instantly forced everyone out of their comfort zones. Essential service workers risked their health to keep our world turning. Office employees morphed into remote workers. Some became part-time teachers for their children. Others faced reduced work hours or lost their jobs completely.
Amid all of this uncertainty, all looked to leaders for reassurance, empathy, and a path forward. The COVID-19 pandemic brought out the human side of leaders, underscoring the importance of showing genuine care for employees, customers, and communities. Now they must maintain that mindset while also acting boldly as their organizations move through the phases of the pandemic: emergency response, crisis management, reopening, and the new normal. The journey through these phases is not linear, and many companies may find themselves moving backward or forward as coronavirus cases spike and recede in different regions.
Since February, Egon Zehnder has virtually convened more than 1,000 leaders around the world to share how they are shaping the future of their organizations and society. Read on for their practical advice on the “doing and “being” aspects of leadership, both now and post-pandemic.
Doing and Being
Doing
Being
This refers to the actions a leader takes, including making the operating decisions such as hiring and layoffs, spearheading workplace safety, handling finances, and more.
This is the human side of leadership, the essence of who you are and how you connect with and motivate others.
